Pickup from Phalaborwa Airport around midday and you will be taken to Marakapula, approximately a 20-minute drive. Depending on the time of your arrival you will enjoy a light lunch and a brief tour of your Lodge’s surroundings either by car or on foot. A welcoming dinner will be served that evening.
In the bush, all the birds wake early! After a buffet-style breakfast you will be taken on a drive to South Africa’s most well-loved and known reserves: The Kruger National Park. About the size of Switzerland, it is home to hundreds of species of fauna and thousands of species of flora. Your guide will be on hand to help you explore the vast expanse of the park and answer any Park-related questions you may have. All the guides are extremely knowledgeable on the animal and birdlife as well as the indigenous flora. The part of the park you will experience is centrally located and is known for favorable sightings of elephant and buffalo. A delicious picnic will be provided for lunch in one of the designated stopping points in the park.
You will depart the park at sunset and be greeted back at Marakapula by a 5-star South African supper, followed by fireside drinks.
Day 3 will include either game drives or guided walks around the Marakapula Reserve. You will learn have an introduction to tracking where our game guides will show you the different tracks and spoor of the animals. It is a day filled with adventure, as we will approach many of them on foot. Lunch will be served on the banks of the Selati River under the Wild Fig Trees where many-a-time you will see hippos wallowing in the waters. After lunch we will explore Marakapula more, and explore the rich history of the area and the preservation of the Sotho history.
Before sunset, we will arrive at Shokeng, our camp located in the lion enclosure, where you will enjoy a delectable dinner paired with some of South Africa’s fine wine.
Amazing views are what day 4 is all about! You will be visiting one of the world’s largest canyons: Blyde River Canyon, located a mere 100 km from Marakapula. Day 4 sees you exchange the fauna and flora of the reserve for breathtaking landscapes: Starting at the Blyde River Dam we tour the 3 rondavels with it’s spectacular views, from there we tour Bourke’s Luck Potholes and finally the breathtaking God’s Window, which plunges an amazing 700m to the South African Lowveld, on a clear day it is possible to see over the Kruger National Park towards the Lebombo Mountains on the border with Mozambique. Lunch is in the historical old mining town of Pilgrim’s Rest, after which, you will be returning in the afternoon to the Reserve.
We aim to make your last day with us memorable. For those who are not in hurry you will leave early in the morning for either a walking or driving tour around Marakapula looking for some of the species you did not see the day before. After your drive or walk you will enjoy a breakfast with the team you spent your safari experience with and then, head back for your return journey.
